Maybe confirm with Dave, but A. asilica, A. brevicornis, A. similis and A. striativentris have also all been collected in Canberra and all look like this in the ANIC draws (I don't know what the specific characters are).

A check with CNM shows we have Apiocera moerans 3390867 listed, identified by Dave Ferguson. It looks identical.

Lack of proboscis suggests not an Asilid but short wings and tapered abdomen suggest Apioceridae. Flower feeders. An interesting find.
