Morning @donhe, I know this sighting was from some time ago, but are you aware of any name change? When I try to look for photos of Choreutis emplecta on iNaturalist it keeps saying Invalid Taxon… there is a remarkably similar-looking one called Choreutis periploca on iNat, but then The Butterfly House has both listed as active taxon so now I’m befuddled😩

I think this matches C. periploca, see https://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/chor/periploca.html

A first sighting of this species on NatureMapr and for NatureMapr's Wide Bay region when confirmed. Stunning photo!

Thanks heap @ibaird😊Do you know if there’s been any name change? When I looked for photos of Choreutis emplecta on iNaturalist it kept saying Invalid Taxon… Choreutis periploca looked remarkably similar on iNat, but The Butterfly House has both listed as active taxon so wasn’t sure if they are one-in-the-same or two different species?

BOLD Systems 4 confirms there are two distinct species C. emplecta and C. periploca. The Australian Faunal Directory gives a detailed history of historical name changes associated with any particular species.

@ibaird , @DiBickers, @HelenCross Thanks very much for looking into I.D. of this tiny moth, it was amazing to see , the pattern on the wings looked like words on it. I hope to see it again some time.

@Gaylesp8 I get a few Choreutis sp. here too, but mine look a bit different to yours. They’re such pretty little moths (& so fast😂there one minute & gone in an instant)🤎

@DBickers, yes very elusive little moths by the sounds of it, I will continue to keep an eye out for it and hope it is doing ok in this area. 😊
